For the next two weeks or so, it’s totally socially acceptable to be incredibly introspective and morose, so let’s do that for a bit!
I don’t think many people will look back on 2016 as one of the truly great years of recent history, but how did go for me on a personal level? Well, compared to 2015, it was a far more bumpy ride – a year of peaks and troughs as opposed to the comparative smoothness of 2015. Fortunately, the peaks were some of the best times of my life.
After many, many months, I’ve finally released Arcus, my first ‘proper’ game. You can buy it on itch.io for less than the price of a cup of coffee, or, if you’re unsure, play a demo version of the game for free.

18,446,744,073,709,551,616 is a pretty big number. It’d take a fair while to count to it. That number was one of the biggest selling points of No Man’s Sky – it’s the number of unique planets the game’s universe purportedly contains.
Wow! Imagine that! How could you ever get bored of a game with so much to explore?!
…so I made a free version for you to play here, instead of spending your hard earned cash! I assure you that it’s an accurate representation of the original game.

After way too long of a time, and way too many coffees, I’ve gotten Arcus into a stable, playable, and somewhat finished state. Now comes the really hard part – letting other people tear apart the thing you’ve created!

To play the game, just download the .zip file, extract anywhere, and run the executable. The game should start up immediately. If there’s no sound or music, it may be because your antivirus software hasn’t finished scanning it – just quit and start it back up again to remedy this.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on Arcus (you’re best off following me on Twitter for that – I post updates and screenshots there pretty frequently). Anyway, onto the BIG NEWS. I’m releasing a public beta soon – likely within the next week.
If, like me, you enjoy game development but are a lazy sod, procedural generation is the way to go. Why spend hours designing levels when an algorithm can do it for you?
